The Youth in Arts Italian Street Painting Festival showcases some of the world’s top street painters, or madonnari, as well as the outstanding talents of local San Francisco Bay Area artists who have taken up this unique art form.
Artists range from internationally recognized masters to talented youth from local schools. The form is truly performance art, with visitors able to see paintings created in front of their eyes, from the first mark on the asphalt to the final stroke of color. Participating in the Festival is a wonderful way for artists to share their work and their inspiration with the estimated 60,000 visitors who come through the free event each summer.
All artists volunteer their time, and each painting is sponsored by a generous donor. Youth in Arts staff carefully match artists and sponsors based on experience and the size of the sponsored painting. Proceeds from the Festival support Youth in Arts’ year-round educational programs for preK-12 students and special needs children and young adults.
