HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FESTIVAL AS A STUDENT GROUP:
1) Elect an adult Arts Coordinator who is responsible for: correspondence with Youth in Arts, facilitating the design and creation of the artwork and recruiting and organizing parent supervisors for Saturday, June 12, 2010 when you will paint your square.
2) Complete a simple application form for your group.
or
download a form to print and mail
3) Make a sponsorship contribution to secure your square(s) or find a sponsor for your group. Each 4' x 6' space requires a sponsorship of $195. If you cannot find your own sponsors, YIA will try to match you with a sponsor, but the only way you can assure your group a spot is to find your own sponsor.
Sponsors can order squares online via Paypal, indicating the name of your group in the online form under "Artist". Click here for the online form.
You can also download a Sponsorhip Form to print and mail.
Once your application is approved and your sponsorship is received, Youth in Arts will send a packet including street painting techniques, a grid for artwork, and all necessary forms. We will also work with your Arts Coordinator to create a schedule for youth artists and adult volunteers for the event on Saturday, June 12th.
WHAT ELSE YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Youth artists should plan the artwork for their square, with assistance from their adult Arts Coordinator. Your experience will be most positive if you come to the Festival knowing what you will paint and how you will work together. High school artists should submit full color renderings of their planned work by May 3 to participate in the new pre-Festival art show. Click for more info...
Sponsors and artists are partners. It is very important that the subject matter be something the sponsor will consider a positive partnership. Generally, sponsors do not like to see their name associated with images of violence, gore or major controversy. No words, nor symbols intended as advertising, may appear in the image.
Youth in Arts Mentor Artists can help students learn the techniques of street painting through workshops, classroom residencies, teacher/parent training. For more information contact us via email.
Students will work collaboratively on each square purchased. Most student group squares are a 4' by 6' vertical format--street painting is time consuming work, and this is more space than you might think for students to complete as a group! However, experienced students willing and able to complete a larger format, may indicate this on the Square Application and we will consider the request.
YOUTH ARTISTS MUST BE SUPERVISED BY AT LEAST ONE RESPONSIBLE ADULT WHO IS NOT CENTRALLY INVOLVED IN PAINTING THE SQUARE DURING THE FESTIVAL. It is critical that parents or other adult volunteers take shifts to cover all the time on Saturday that youth artists will be working. An artist who will be focused on helping students paint the square must have at least one other adult volunteer to help supervise the children. UNSUPERVISED CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.Youth artists must be finished with their squares by Saturday evening.
