Advocacy

Miko (along with partners from NYC and LA) presented at Grantmakers for the Arts Conference in Detroit on The Teaching Artist Field (moderated by the Hewlett Foundation).

Miko has been in planning meetings with MCOE & the CA Arts Alliance on a day long meeting to shape the Marin Arts Education Plan to be held at YIA.

Miko has met with San Rafael Cultural Partners (AWD, BID, City of SR, ISPM, CFI, Falkirk) about the CAC designation, more materials and logo coming soon.

Miko will be up in Sacramento to work on arts inclusion for kids with disabilities.

Notes from Austin:

Gigs

11/5/17 Cole Porter Salutes Motown: This was a sold out show at the Marin Showcase Theatre with ‘TD and a number of other talented Bay Area artists doing their renditions of classic Motown songs for a very appreciative audience.

Culture Building

9/6/17: Appreciation Journals

In the spirit of maintaining an ongoing culture of appreciation, we spend 5 minutes at the end of each rehearsal writing something we appreciate about the person whose name we drew on September 6. We will continue appreciations of this person for each rehearsal through our Holiday Buddy Gift Swap. The person we appreciate is the person to whom we’ll be giving a gift. In addition to the gift, they’ll receive the journal of appreciation we’ve been keeping for them.

TD Photo Shoot

The original shoot date was canceled owing to the fires. We had a fun, lively, efficient shoot.

Repertoire

We learned “Reach Out, I’ll Be There”, by The Four Tops, for the Motown gig. We feature two of our newest members, Megan Shindelus and Megan Bober as the featured lead and featured descant.

We’ve now got the following songs in our repertoire: Bottom of the River, Barton Hollow, Crazy, Cry Me a Rive, I Can’t Stand the Rain, I Want You Back, Love’s in Need of Love Today, Reach Out, I’ll Be There, Steal My Kisses, Sweet Dreams, When I Get You Alone

We’ve started working on our holiday repertoire. After we get that together, we’ll be ready to start on brand new music.
