San Rafael, CA – September 9, 2024 – Youth in Arts (YIA) is pleased to host our annual Outside the Lines show curated by Youth in Arts Visual Arts Coordinator, Cathy Bowman, aimed at celebrating the boundless imagination of students with disabilities in Marin. The exhibition will be on view at the YIA Gallery in the Downtown San Rafael Arts District from August 23 to October 18, 2024, with a public opening reception scheduled during the Second Friday Artwalk on September 13 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Outside the Lines features work from Youth in Arts’ Arts Unite Us program serving Marin County students with disabilities. The show is a testament to the limitless creativity that shines through individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. Youth in Arts’ Arts Unite Us program offers students with disabilities the opportunity to communicate through artistic expression. By showcasing their work, we aim to inspire and educate our community about the importance of inclusion and the vast potential within us all.
Youth in Arts offers arts in-and-out of school learning opportunities to youth of all abilities. For more than 25 years, we have been the only consistent arts education provider in Marin County’s Special Day Classrooms (SDCs) for students with disabilities. Through our Arts Unite Us program, we match teaching artists in visual arts, music and dance with more than 30 self-contained classrooms. Each year, we celebrate this work with the Outside the Lines show at the YIA Gallery.
Outside the Lines offers a vibrant display of artwork that reflects the dynamic range of talents and perspectives of students with disabilities. This diverse collection invites viewers to explore the unique ways these young artists interpret the world around them, reinforcing the message that creativity knows no boundaries. We encourage the community to visit the exhibit and experience firsthand the power of art to connect, inspire, and advocate for a more inclusive future.
Join Youth in Arts this month in our Art Lab to create posters in honor of United Against Hate Week. United Against Hate Week is a call for seven days of local civic action by people in every community to stop the hate and implicit biases that are a dangerous threat to the safety and civility of our neighborhoods, towns and cities. United Against Hate Week was created by civic leaders in direct response to the sharp rise in expressions of hate in our communities. All poster making materials will be provided, so bring your ideas and come create with us.
